NEWS FLASH: Gun Owners of California Will NEVER Give Up

“He does not have to debate….Gun owners don’t vote. So we’re screwed. Stock up now.”

This came in response to GOC’s charge that Gavin Newsom won’t personally appear to debate the merits of his own proposition.  Of course he doesn’t have to – that’s not the issue.  It’s about having the integrity to defend what you are trying to shove down the throats of all Californians.

But remember this – the beginning and the end of what Gun Owners of California is all about comes down to educating and organizing a group of people with a common interest:  the protection of the 2nd Amendment.  Not the 2nd Amendment by itself – but the PROTECTION of it.  We can look at the Constitution all day long and marvel at how cool and smart our Founders were, but if we are not willing to stand up and defend – and yes fight for what it means, then liberty doesn’t have a chance.

History is a great teacher, and it has proven that gun owners HAVE VOTED.  Gun owners CAN make a difference.  For those who aren’t aware, the gun control push didn’t begin when Obama was elected – it began in earnest in 1975, when legislation was introduced in California to ban all handguns in the state. The bill generated strong support from elected officials and the main-stream media, which triggered Senator H.L. Richardson to mobilize enraged citizens from throughout the state.  It was at this point that Gun Owners of California was born, a direct mail attack was unleashed and the bill was defeated.  Gun Owners of America soon followed and Richardson’s keen skill for mobilizing single individuals toward a common goal launched a very effective political movement that continues to focus on the preservation of the Second Amendment.  In 1982, Proposition 15 was on the ballot, which also sought to ban the private possession of handguns – and in spite of heavy support from the media and polls showing public support 2 -1, it ended up losing by almost the same margin.  WHY?  Because gun owners voted.

Does that mean that the gun owners of today are going to step up?  That still remains to be seen, but GOC will never shy away from the battle, close up shop and resort only to “stocking up.”

We’ve been beating the drum about the need to be armed and informed for decades, and won’t stop now.  Without question, an uninformed voter is a dangerous voter – with so many Americans oblivious to the most basic facts of public policy, it’s no wonder many are duped into forgetting about what makes our country so different from others in the world.

Every single one of us needs to make certain our pro-gun family, friends and co-workers make it to the polls.  Impress upon them the importance of voting – not just for the sake of saying they exercised this right, but because they understand what’s happening with these rights, and because they believe collectively, our voices can be the difference between winning and losing.  Contrary to liberal propaganda, this is not an issue of Republican or Democrat.  It’s an issue of whether you believe in the 2nd Amendment of our Constitution.

Our country and state are in one of the most unsettling times in our history.  This is not the time to roll over and play dead.  Winston Churchill’s words are more relevant today than ever:  “When you are going through hell, keep on going. Never never never give up.”
